Week 2 and a huge thank you to Everton from everybody associated with Wolverhampton Wanderers, for being ever so slightly more shit than we are right now................
For the second week in a row, Man Utd had the pleasure of kicking our week off with a trip to the seaside, as they faced up against the high flying Seagulls and having lost 4 of the last 5, the odds were against The Red Devils and that stat can now be extended to 5 from 6, with Brighton taking the win 2-1.
Chelsea took an extremely flattering 6-2 result back down South, a game that could have easily gone either way, were it not for Wolves lack of accuracy in front of goal, 2 goals chalked off for offside, not to mention our left back being absent for most of the game A great game for the neutral and I'm looking forward to seeing how Chelsea get on against the more clinical teams, as there were opportunities a plenty !!
Man City welcomed back Ilkay Gundogan after his brief hiatus at Barcelona and after initially falling behind 1-0 after 7 mins, did what Man City do and with goals from Haaland and De Bruyne, finished up convincing 4-1 winners.
In the fixture that gave Arsenal a multitude of problems last season, The Gunners safely navigated it this weekend. Villa, the only team to do the double over them last year and it was anybody's game in the first half, Watkins missed a sitter and again just after half time, headed a rebound straight at the crossbar. Trossard hit the back of the onion bag shortly after coming on to make it 1-0 and following a pin-point pass from that man Saka, Thomas Partay scored a rocket from outside the box, final score 2-0 to the Arsenal.
The Toffees travelled down to Spurs one week after an opening day 3-0 defeat to The Seagulls and not content with conceding just 3, they went one better, losing 4-0. Bumbling goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford accounting for x2 goals, the pick of the goals No. 4 as Micky van de Ven was allowed to gallop straight up the middle of the pitch from his own box to set up Son Heung-min for his second.
After their 'surprising' victory last week, Brentford were brought well and truly back down to earth as they headed up to Anfield. 2-0 the final result with goals from Luis Diaz and some bloke called Mo Salah. Liverpool looked strong, with twice the amount of goal attempts than The Bees, the win never really in doubt.
Elsewhere, Newcastle were very lucky to escape with a draw against The Cherries, the latter having a potential winning goal chalked off at the death due to a contentious handball. Nob head Morgan Gibbs-White scored the winner for Forest in their win against Southampton. Bowen and Soucek got the winners for West Ham as they headed over the river to Crystal Palace, the later showing every defender / defensive midfielder exactly where to be after a corner, hitting a rebound from the edge of the box and last but by no means least, Fulham put a finger against the big mouth of Jamie Vardy in their 2-1 win against The Foxes.
As far as our comp goes, top spot was taken out by father and son duo Kurtis and Rob Shortall with 8 points, both of whom only let down by Newcastle and both Man U (not Rob, who, as a true Liverpool fan, put Brighton to win) and Crystal Palace.
Well done fellas, you are this week's champione's, hats off and kudos to you both !!!!
Table topper Callum managed 6 points this week, but sits well and truly on top of our table after his spectacular opening 'double up' last week.
Good luck this week all.
